Lying on the River Stour, Canterbury is a UNESCO World Heritage Site popular place to live and with it’s fast train to London, is also becoming increasingly popular with Londoners looking for a cheaper and less polluted area for their families. We have some of the best schools in Kent and convenient transport links to Dover, London and Ashford. We have three Universities and tourists from all over the World come to it’s many visitor attractions. Canterbury is also home to the Kent Country Cricket Club and has a whole host of famous names living in and around the City. The surrounding areas of Whitstable, Herne Bay, Faversham, Thanet and Ashford are all within a 20 mile radius and provide stunning coastlines, quaint towns, rambling countryside and of course the quick link over to France from the Eurostar Station in Ashford or you can you’re your car through the Eurotunnel from Folkestone. Below we have provided some key points of interest and information and also our Sales Director has put together her very own guide to the best pubs and eateries.

Crab and Winkle Way

Stunning cycle and foothpath between Canterbury and Whitstable. Over 7 miles of beautiful scenery, through Blean Woods ending up at Whitstable’s picturesque harbour where you can enjoy tasty local seafood including Whitstable’s famous locally sourced oysters. Great outdoors exercise for the whole family

Howletts Wild Animal Park

Located just outside the City, in the village of Bekesbourne and home to the largest herd of elephants in the UK. Founded by the late John Aspinall this started off as a private zoo in 1957 and opened to the public in 1975. The zoo is dedicated to animal conservation and through its charity The Aspinall Foundation it helps send animals back to the wild. The zoo is home to over 390 animals including many rare and endangered species. The gorilla enclosure is wildly popular as are the many babies that are born there each year. A great day of fun and learning for the family and a popular school excursion.

The Canterbury Tales Visitor Attraction

A wonderful theatrical tour with a costumed guide, walking in the steps of the Pilgrims finally reaching the resting place of Thomas Beckett. This fantastic tour is suitable for all ages and is a great practical and interactive way to teach the kids outside of the classroom.

Escape In the Towers

The historic Westgate Towers, a former jail dating back to 1830 provides a dramatic setting for this fantastic and authentic experience. If you’re looking for something a little bit different, then get a group of friends together for a dramatic race against the clock to escape the eerie chambers.

The Marlowe Theatre

This Infamous icon building, named after Canterbury’s most famous son, Christopher Marlowe, is a firm favourite with both locals and out of towners. On its third building, the new look theatre was opened in 2011 providing a 1200 seat auditorium and hosting some amazing shows including West End shows, ballet, modern dance, opera, comedies and the must-see Christmas panto. The aptly named ‘Bulkhead’ takes pride of place outside and is one of the most photographed sculptures in the City.

Shopping

If you’re looking for some retail therapy look no further. Canterbury has a wide variety of brand names on its famous High Street and also some lovely little independent shops dotted around the cobbled pedestrian areas. Make a day of it and stop for lunch or coffee at one of the many fabulous eateries.

Canterbury is a bustling City and parking in the centre can be expensive and difficult. However, there are three Park and Ride services on the outskirts frequently running, offering a hop on hop off service and providing an inexpensive and less stressful way to enjoy Canterbury.
